There are four classic works of Chinese medicine, namely Huangdi Neijing, Nanjing, Shanghan Zabing Lun and Shennong Bencaojing. Among them, Huangdi Neijing was written the earliest and contains the most content, becoming a classic in the treasure house of Chinese medicine. [11]
Some people say that Huangdi Neijing is a “heavenly book” that is obscure and difficult to understand. As the saying goes, “half of the Analects can rule the world”, but if you really understand Huangdi Neijing, you can also “half of the Neijing can nourish your life”. [11]
Shanghan Lun was written based on Tangye Jingfa. [13] Tangye Jingfa is said to have been written by Yi Yin, the prime minister of the Shang Dynasty. Tangye Jingfa has 32 volumes. [12]
It has a profound influence on countries in the Chinese character cultural circle, such as Vietnamese Eastern medicine [14], Korean medicine [16], Japanese medicine, and Korean traditional medicine [15], all of which were developed based on Chinese medicine. [1]
Traditional Chinese medicine takes Yin and Yang and the Five Elements as its theoretical basis and regards the human body as a unity of Qi, form and spirit. Through the combined method of “looking, listening, asking and feeling”, it explores the cause, nature and location of the disease, analyzes the pathogenesis and the changes in the internal organs, meridians and joints, Qi, blood and body fluids in the human body, judges the rise and fall of evil and righteousness, and then derives the name of the disease and summarizes the syndrome type. Based on the principle of syndrome differentiation and treatment, it formulates the treatment methods of “sweating, vomiting, purgation, harmonization, warming, clearing, supplementing and eliminating”, and uses a variety of treatment methods such as Chinese medicine, acupuncture, massage, cupping, Qigong, diet therapy, etc. to achieve the harmony of Yin and Yang in the human body and recover. On October 1, 2018, the American magazine Nature reported that traditional Chinese medicine has been included in the World Health Assembly, the highest authority of the World Health Organization, and will appear in the 11th edition of the Global Medical Guidelines released by the organization in 2019.
